What is a Cozy Comfort?
For many of us it can be a warm hug, a meal with family, or kind words shared between friends. For patients receiving treatment at Banner Rehabilitation Hospital West after a stroke or injury, a Cozy Comfort is a bit more.
A patient’s stay at Banner Rehab is aided by encouraging staff to help them achieve their “new normal.” While visits from family and friends are uplifting, hospital rooms can be a lonely place. For recovering patients, a Cozy Comfort takes the form of beautifully crocheted or knitted lap blankets or capelets. In addition to warding off the chill in air-conditioned rooms, these hand-crafted items provide something soft to hold as well as a bright spot of color. The items carry a message from individuals they’ve never met that say “we are rooting for you” and “get better soon.”
Established in 2025, Cozy Comforts are created by members of the Needlework Special Interest Group of Grand Stitchers using not only donated yarn, but yarn from the personal “stashes” of the individuals doing the work. We donate about 300 items yearly to Banner Rehab. That’s a lot of yarn!
Your monetary donations are appreciated and go a long way to help create these items of comfort and happiness. Thank you for your help!
